Adding events into Widgety is a quick and easy way of promoting your business to dozens of other websites and, in turn, to hundreds of potential new customers. The What’s On Widgets are populated entirely with content provided from hotels, attractions and experiences that have special offers, seasonal events, half-term activities and more; they add their content into Widgety and the event feeds out to any What’s On Widgets that select it.
Some businesses also choose to add the events into Widgety and then host them on their own website through their own dedicated What’s On guide. .
To add in a single event, go to your place page and click 'Create a New Event' in the navigation on the left hand side.
At the top of the page is the fields for your event name, date and time. It’s best not to put an event running for longer than a few weeks - it will sit at the top of a Widget until it ends and people can get fed up with seeing it all the time. An event can’t have started in the past, so just put the current date if it started a few days ago.
Put as much content for the event as you have into the boxes so that someone looking at it will have all the information they need; there are designated boxes for ticket prices and where to buy, there is an option to insert a YouTube video or attach a file - this could be a leaflet or menu.
Make sure that you include an image and that it is the right size and shape - the ideal image size is similar to a Facebook cover photo, but anything landscape will fit.
At the bottom of the page, the final step is tagging your event. Here you can tag things like ‘seasonal’, ‘weddings’ or ‘children’s events’, so that it will come up if someone is specifically looking for those things.
After you’ve followed the steps and filled in the boxes, click ‘Create Event’ to set it live on the system.
To upload more than one event at a time you can use our Bulk Uploader, which will be in an upcoming guide.
